Emotional & Informational Assistance to Patients and Family Members

The Moonlight fund provides 24/7 access to a fellow burn survivor for those seeking information on wound care, treatment facilities, or doctor referrals. We also provide emotional assistance to those family members or patients during and after the time of the accident. In an effort to provide hope, and some peace of mind, it’s important for those we serve to know they are not alone in this struggle. Our presence on the burn units and rehabilitation facilities is a large piece of what we do. We also are very active in the area of negotiating the costs of ongoing treatment, funeral services, housing, and childcare. We feel that these services are very beneficial to those we serve.

Financial Aid

The fund actively raises money through the year in an effort to support those with financial needs. Gaps in medical care, rehabilitation services, burial expenses, housing, and transportation needs. Additionally we assist with work re-entry programs, and child care assistance. The fund is open to any request; said requests must be made in writing by the attending physician, case worker, or qualified rehabilitation or educational facility.

Solicitation and Distribution of
in-kind Goods

This service is provided to those who may have lost household goods due to their accident. Clothing, computers, furnishings, household goods and automobiles.  We also distribute wound care supplies, and physical therapy equipment to those who cannot afford them following their accident.

Retreats for burn Survivors and their Spouses

Our retreats are held at T Bar M resort in New Braunfels, and are held in the fall and spring. Offering an opportunity for those with recent injuries to spend the weekend with fellow long term survivors. The retreat provides educational information regarding ongoing care, emotional support to the patient and their caregiver, including guest speakers who have overcome their accidents and have gone on to lead productive lives. The weekend is low key, and a relaxed get away from the medical world. The retreat is open to all who have suffered a burn injury, or an amputation due to a burn or blast accident.
